Since 2002, the Durham Region Unemployed Help Centre has specialized in employment services to newcomers through the Job Search Workshop program. In 2011, DRUHC became the lead of the Pickering Welcome Centre and began offering The Mentorship Partnership; an innovative and exemplary program initiated by the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC).

Twenty-four percent of the Durham Region Unemployed Help Centre's full-time staff is dedicated to serving newcomers. Twenty-two of our 46 staff members speak another language. Thirty-four percent were born outside of Canada. We embrace diversity.
We also work closely with the Diversity and Immigration Program at the Region of Durham, and DRUHC’s Executive Director, Maralyn Tassone, is a member of the Local Diversity and Immigration Partnership Council.
In September 2017, the Durham Region Unemployed Help Centre was acknowledged with a Diversity Champion Award. Presented by Audrey Andrews on behalf of the Region of Durham's Local Diversity and Immigration Partnership Council, the certificate recognizes the Durham Region Unemployed Help Centre as leaders in diversity and inclusion, contributing to a stronger, more inclusive Durham community.
