What is a scanable résumé? A scanable résumé is one that can be easily read by a computer. Employers scan résumés to screen for suitable candidates. Scanable résumés can be used to search for “keywords” that the employer feels are important. Each time a keyword is found, your scanable résumé has a “hit”. The more hits you get, the more likely you are to be seen as a suitable candidate.

Tips:

No fancy stuff (see what not to include)
Use a simple font like Times New Roman or Arial
Use one font size throughout the entire résumé
Use Keywords, Keywords, Keyword

What not to include:

Bold, italics, or underlining
Different font sizes
Bullets, symbols, borders or shading
